The many applications of waste heat recovery
Atlas Copco offers a range of energy recovery solutions for most types of compressors and all types of customers. On the one hand, that means we offer the technology that effectively captures the heat of compression and readies it for re-use. This includes fully integrated as well as standalone equipment that can be added to new or already operational compressors. We also have the expertise to help you find the right application for your recovered heat. These applications are plentiful throughout all industries.
Hot air recovered from a compressor can be ducted through warehouses and workshops for auxiliary or main space heating. It can also be fed to ovens, dryers, and curing equipment for processes that involve drying.
Steam is used in countless industries, often in continuous processes. For these applications, recovered hot water can contribute to operational energy efficiency.
Pharmaceuticals: temperature maintenance, drying, sterilization, and anti-bacterial treatment
Food & beverage/dairy: pasteurizing, scalding, drying, cleaning, and sterilizing
Textile: dyeing, spinning, weaving, and finishing
Paper: cooking pulp and drying
Chemical: breaking raw materials into base chemicals
Painting: degreasing, drying, tempering, and baking
Hot water
Hot water from your compressed air system can be used for feed water preheating, space heating, and process heating. Typical and well-known applications are space heating with radiators, laundries, industrial cleaning, and sanitary facilities. Especially the process heating applications are almost endless. Recovered hot water is utilized in coffee roasting, chocolate making, beer brewing, dairy production, spray painting, and automotive manufacturing. Many of these industries have multiple uses for hot water and/or steam, and thus for compressor energy recovery. Later on in this ebook, we will take a closer look at some of these industries.
